Our school aged Learn To Swim program is a complete program from the hesitant beginner through to those swimmers working on perfecting all four swimming strokes. Our levels are designed for children to progress through and develop the building blocks of all strokes, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.

4 children in a class
This class encourages water confidence and builds the foundation for swimming skills. Students will be introduced to skills including, submerging, floating, and developing a strong kicking action & independent swimming.

Skill Focus
The ability to safely and confidently enter and exit the pool.
Confidence to perform an assisted 5 second front & back float, recover to a standing position.
Flutter kick with a kickboard, 5m; long straight legs, pointed toes, continuous kick.
With assistance kick on back, with a kickboard strong kick and correct body position.
Regularly and consistently attends lessons weekly.
A willingness to confidently and independently submerge underwater.
Confidence to perform a 5 second front & back float, recover to a standing position.
The ability to confidently swim independently, with a strong kick and under pulling action; with pop up breathing skills.
Swim out, roll over onto back, roll over to front and swim back to the wall.

4 children in a class
This class consolidates floating and water safety skills, while continuing to build a strong kick on the students front & back. We begin to introduce students to foundational stroke skills.

Skill Focus
Confidently front float, rotate to a back float, rotate to front and swim to the wall.
Freestyle streamline with correct head, body and arm position with a continuous kick, 5m.
Flutter kick with a kickboard, 5m; hips high, strong kick.
Safety Swim - swim big arms out, roll over, float on your back, roll over, swim big arms back to wall.
Regularly and consistently attends lessons weekly.
Independently with a kickboard, correct body and head position & strong kick with forward propulsion.
Basic Freestyle coordination skills, strong kick with a basic straight arm action.
Independently kicking on back, with a strong kick and correct position.
Confidence to submerge and swim underwater to collect an object from the pool floor.

4 children in a class
Students in this level will develop a natural breathing pattern & begin to develop Freestyle with a breathing technique. Students will also progress with Backstroke skills.

Skill Focus
Freestyle streamline start, with correct technique into freestyle
Strong bilateral body rotation to the side, take a breath, continuous kick and strong body position in the water.
The ability to independently kick in a streamline position on their back.
Independently swim backstroke with a strong kick, correct body position and smooth arm action.
Regularly and consistently attends lessons weekly.
Basic head and body rotation to breath, continuous kick and strong body position in the water, with a kickboard.
Freestyle independently, with a basic bilateral breathing pattern.
Basic backstroke arm action, continuous rotation with a strong kick.
Safety Swim - WITHOUT GOGGLES - swim big arms out, roll over, float on your back, roll over, swim big arms back to wall.

5 children in a class
This class focuses on further improving Freestyle and Backstroke whilst also introducing Breaststroke kick. Learning to swim Breaststroke with effective technique will assist any student in an aquatic emergency situation.

Skill Focus
Streamline with correct head, body and arm position and continuous kick.
Completes 10m of freestyle with correct body position and an efficient bilateral breathing pattern.
Ability to perform a rotational arm action with and balanced propulsion through the water.
Perform a basic dolphin kick, arms by side, chin to chest, feet together strong kick.
Regularly and consistently attends lessons weekly.
Biateral breathing skills, able to roll to the side and take a breath without interruption to forward propulsion.
Streamline with correct head, body and arm position and continuous kick.
Completes 10m of Backstroke with correct body position and continuous kick and arm action.
Survival Backstroke; with a basic round kick and sculling arm action.

5 children in a class
This class develops the students endurance in Freestyle & Backstroke swimming continuously over short distances to ensure stroke efficiency in Freestyle & Backstroke. Students are introduced to Breaststroke kick and build a strong kick, while continuing to develop a propulsive Butterfly kick.

Skill Focus
Drop down underwater, push off in a streamline - 3 butterfly kicks, correctly transition into Freestyle swim.
Drop down underwater, push off in a streamline - 3 butterfly kicks, correctly transition into Backstroke swim.
Performs Breaststroke kick with a kickboard; correct position of ankle, knee and hip position.
Butterfly kick in a streamline, strong propulsive kick.
Regularly and consistently attends lessons weekly.
Completes 12m Freestyle independently, with a strong kick and efficient breathing technique.
Completes 12m Backstroke with correct body position and continuous kick and arm action.
Performs a strong Breaststroke kick with propulsion and glide, in a streamline position.
Perform a breaststroke kick on back and use a basic underwater sculling action, essential life saving skill.

5 children in a class
This level is a fantastic opportunity for students as they will now be practicing all four strokes. Breaststroke and Butterfly arm actions will be introduced while Freestyle and Backstroke will become more technical and efficient. Swimmers will learn basic Freestyle and Backstroke tumble turns.

Skill Focus
Dropdown streamline, 3 butterfly kicks, Freestyle with a strong kick, bent elbow recovery and fluent bilateral breathing pattern.
Performs Breaststroke kick in streamline position with correct ankle, knee and hip position.
Breaststroke with basic technique, timing and body position.
Survival Backstroke with breaststroke kick, and sculling action.
Has a basic understanding of lap lane etiquette, swimming on the left and spacing between swimmers.
Dropdown streamline, 3 butterfly kicks, Backstroke with a propulsive kick, maintaining continuous arm action and body position.
Performs Breaststroke arm action with basic technique and timing of breath.
Continuous butterfly kick with correct head and body position. Rotational body position - front, side, back, side.
Regularly and consistently attends lessons weekly.

8 children in a class
Swimmers will be swimming all four strokes with the introduction of Butterfly. Breaststroke will continue to be enhanced with specific stroke timing & technique. Freestyle & Backstroke endurance will be increased and include some basic tumble turn skills. Students are required to bring a drink bottle and flippers with them to their lesson.

Skill Focus
Drop down underwater, push off in a streamline with correct head, body and arm position and continuous kick.
Complete a tumble turn, streamline and continually swim freestyle with bilateral breathing pattern.
Completes a backstroke tumble turn with correct entry, body position on wall and exits in streamline position.
Butterfly with correct stroke timing, strong kick and building swimming endurance.
Has a basic understanding of lap lane etiquette, swimming on the left and spacing between swimmers.
Confidently swim 25m freestyle, with a propulsive kick and efficient bilateral breathing.
Confidently swim 25m backstroke with a propulsive kick, maintaining continuous arm action and good body position.
Breaststroke with correct timing, propulsive kick and building endurance.
The ability to swim 100m continuously, 25m of Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle.

10 children in a class
Students will now be swimming repetitive laps and will be using the pace clock. Drills will be used to enhance their technique, across the four strokes. Strength and endurance will improve further. Students are required to bring their own flippers and drink bottle with them to their lesson.

Breaststroke swim 50m with correct timing, propulsive kick and building endurance.
Butterfly with correct stroke timing, and building swimming endurance.
The ability to swim 200m continuously, 50m of Freestyle. Backstroke, Breaststroke & Butterfly.
